Object

Systematic organisation of museums of art, achaeology, history and popular arts. (HB 1931) Aider les gouvernements et administrations nationales dans l'organisation rationnelle et le développement de leurs collections publiques (musées et monuments d'art et d'histoire, d'archéologie, d'ethnographie et d'art populaire), en établissant des instruments de travail au profit des conservateurs de musées, des historiens d'art et du public; en étudiant, au moyen de réunions internationales d'experts, des questions législatives, administratives et techniques pour la protection et la conservation du patrimoine artistique et tous les problèmes artistiques et archéologiques pour lesquels s'impose une coordination internationale. (HB 1936) To assist Governments and national administrations in the systematic organisation and development of their public collections (museums and monuments of art and history, archaeology, ethnography and popular art) by establishing working instruments for the benefit of conservators of museums, historians of art and the public; by studying, by means of international meetings of experts, legislative, administrative and technical questions for the protection and preservation of artistic treasures and all artistic and archaeological problems calling for international co-ordination. "Mouscion" (quarterly review); "Répertoire international des Musées" (museums directory). Up to the present directories have been published for the Netherlands, Poland and France. Similar volumes are in preparation for Greece, Roumania, Austria and Italy. The Office publishes special monographs from time to time.
