L'Alliance a su diminuer les heures de travail de 60 à 44 par semaine et a égalisé autant que possible les salaires et les conditions du travail dans tous les pays. Les liens entre les syndicats affiliés ne furent pas rompus pendant la guerre, grâce à l'intermédiaire d'Amsterdam.
