The P.E.N. is an international association of writers well-known in the various branches of literature. By cultivating friendly relations and organising hospitality, it aims at- promoting cordial co-operation between writers in all countries, in the interests of freedom of artistic expression and international understanding.

Activities
The P.E.N, meets regularly in London once a month at dinner, when writers from other countries are entertained. There is an international congress once a year, generally in June. The first was in London ; the second in New York ; the third, Paris ; the fourth, Berlin ; the fifth, Brussels ; the sixth, Oslo ; the seventh (1929) was in Vienna. The P.E.N, is considering collaboration with the International Institute of Intellectual Co-operation in the matter of translations. (HB 1929)
